Why is independent advice so important?
Whether in person, by telephone or by video: the consultation is about one question only – which path offers the best prospect of success in your situation. We are committed neither to industry nor to professional associations or payers, and we do not have to meet performance or revenue targets. That is why we can objectively recommend what suits you.
Many practices and smaller providers master only one or a few of the procedures with which overweight can be treated under medical supervision today. Anyone who offers only one method easily comes under pressure to fit every patient into their own template – and, in the worst case, recommends a treatment although another would have had a better prospect of success.
With us, we weigh things up carefully and include all the options of modern, evidence-based medicine for people with overweight and obesity. This results in a treatment plan that is as individual as you are.

Mistakes happen – in medicine they can have serious consequences. That is why everything must be done to keep their risk as small as possible. At Weight Doctors®, a firmly established six-eyes principle applies before every treatment.
Before you come to a procedure, at least three qualified professionals have given their professional approval. If even one of them is missing, the treatment does not take place. After all, decisions made jointly by several professionals are weighed up more carefully than those made by one person alone.

Who treats me – and how is this verified?
One specialist is not the same as another – especially in minimally invasive stomach reduction, which demands a great deal of specialisation. Complaints, side effects and complications not infrequently arise because the treating doctor lacks experience with a procedure.
From more than 15 years of experience in minimally invasive obesity medicine, our management team has therefore developed a 4-stage curriculum. Every specialist with the Weight Doctors® quality check must have completed it before treating our patients. The Lead Surgeons – the specialists in our team with the most routine – give their vote and make sure that every doctor supports our treatment philosophy and our quality promise.
In many clinics it is uncertain who will actually treat you in the end, and further care often takes place far from the chief physician. Our treating doctors are long-standing specialists and have careers as chief physicians or senior consultants at large clinics behind them. So at every doctor–patient contact you are cared for at chief physician level – from the initial examination to the final check-up.
In addition there is specialisation: our specialists concentrate on minimally invasive obesity medicine and regularly perform hundreds of comparable procedures. In medicine, too, routine comes from practice.

How do medicine, nutrition and digital tools work together?
The philosophy of Weight Doctors® is based on a multidisciplinary approach. It is carried by general and visceral surgeons, gastroenterologists, internists, anaesthetists, nutrition scientists, diabetologists and psychologists – each discipline with its own view of your situation.
Digitalisation and artificial intelligence support this team: the Weight Doctors® App, whose progress data help our patient advisers with their assessment, cloud-based monitoring in aftercare and the Weight Doctors® 3D Bodyscan. With a digital 3D avatar, we record your physical starting point and document how important body values change over the course of therapy. In the app, Weight Doctors® Mira also accompanies you with questions about nutrition and everyday life – more on this under Weight Doctors® MEMBERSHIP.
Weight reduction stands or falls with nutrition. As a member of the German Nutrition Society (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Ernährung e. V., DGE), we have committed ourselves to basing our nutritional advice on current scientific findings; the DGE stands for evidence-based, independent recommendations. For you, this means that what our nutrition experts advise you in nutrition coaching follows the state of nutritional science.
Where does my treatment take place?
Besides the qualifications of the specialists, the quality of the facility in which you are treated matters. In our clinic in Dortmund, with an intermediate care unit and its own medical laboratory, we perform the entire spectrum of minimally invasive obesity medicine; at the head of our network is the Weight Doctors® Nationalklinik in Wertheim.
At the other locations, we treat in state-licensed private clinics under § 30 GewO with a focus on elective medicine. Such specialist clinics differ markedly from medical practices: only there are the prerequisites for inpatient accommodation met, and the strict regulations on nursing care, hygiene, medical equipment and medical devices are not only complied with but also inspected regularly by supervisory authorities and public health offices.

How do you ensure quality at all locations?
No matter which location you are treated at: all of them follow the same treatment philosophy and a central quality management system. A dedicated team is responsible for aligning our medical guidelines, workflows and processes. Its aim is that your treatment follows the current scientific state of knowledge and the applicable hygiene regulations on infection prevention, and builds on the best practice from our experience.
This standard has been independently audited by the patient portal myBody® – the 2024 certificate hangs in our clinic in Dortmund.
Only products from certified manufacturers are used. Besides CE conformity, we pay attention to the Medical Device Regulation (MDR, EU Regulation 2017/745) – and to ensuring that products and materials are used properly and appropriately. Regular workshops, briefings and further training ensure that our specialist staff master them safely and that their benefit actually reaches you.

How do new procedures reach patients?
Our specialists and our management are internationally networked and maintain close links with research laboratories. This way we learn early about new, scientifically proven developments in our field – and can offer them to our patients as soon as they have been tested and approved.
This has already happened several times: the management of Weight Doctors® brought the adjustable Spatz3 gastric balloon to Germany, as well as pose® technology, whose basic idea is still part of Weight Doctors SLEEVE® today. We also played a significant part in introducing Apollo OverStitch™ for non-surgical endoscopic stomach reduction in Germany, the Netherlands and South Africa.
Today we work with the further development OverStitch NXT™, which is nickel-free and is therefore also suitable for almost all patients with a nickel allergy. In this spirit, we want to continue to ensure in future that proven new procedures reach you without detours.

What does treatment cost – and how do patients experience us?
Once we have got to know you in the specialist consultation, understood your goal and learned about your medical prerequisites, you receive an individual Weight Doctors® treatment recommendation with a precise cost breakdown – usually on the day of the consultation. After that there are no more surprises: the costs stated already include all medical services.
