BMI calculator

Work out your body mass index

The calculator above works out your body mass index (BMI) from your weight and height: your weight in kilograms divided by the square of your height in metres. You can read here what your value means and which method may come into question.

What your BMI value means

Depending on the BMI range, the risk of related conditions and the treatments that may come into question differ.

Mini sleeve, endo sleeve and extended sleeve belong to the Weight Doctors SLEEVE® programme; the surgical gastric sleeve and the gastric bypass belong to Weight Doctors BARIATRICS®.

  1. BMI below 25Normal weight or below: health limitations due to your weight are generally not to be expected. If your BMI is well below 20, you should consider the possibility of underweight and, if necessary, seek help. Nutrition coaching can show which foods suit your body.
  2. BMI 25–29.9Excess weight: your risk of related conditions is low but raised; fitness may be limited. Options that may come into question include the gastric balloon for 6 months, the swallowable Allurion gastric balloon or – permanently – the mini sleeve.
  3. BMI 30–34.9Obesity grade I: the risk of related conditions is raised, and the weight is physically noticeable. A temporary stomach reduction may make sense, e.g. the adjustable Spatz3 gastric balloon for 12 months, or the endo sleeve for a permanent solution.
  4. BMI 35–39.9Obesity grade II: a serious form of obesity. Options that may come into question are a gastric balloon for 1 year or – depending on your weight-loss goal – a permanent solution such as the endo sleeve or extended sleeve.
  5. BMI 40–44.9Obesity grade III: the risk of secondary illnesses is markedly raised; seek medical advice. Possible options include the extended sleeve or the surgical gastric sleeve.
  6. BMI from 45Obesity grade III, from BMI 50 super obesity: joint complaints, restricted mobility and difficult breathing are possible. Weight Doctors BARIATRICS® is intended primarily for this, with gastric bypass or gastric sleeve.

How to read your BMI value correctly

A BMI of 25 or above is by definition classed as excess weight, and a BMI of 30 or above as obesity. The table shows the classification of the World Health Organization (WHO).

Before you tackle your excess weight, you should be clear about the goal of your therapy. Experience shows that a therapy is more successful the more easily the necessary changes can be put into practice in everyday life, and the less enjoyment of eating falls by the wayside. Otherwise, motivation can quickly wane.

The Weight Doctors team advises you discreetly and individually on the individual treatment options and on the way to your desired or target weight.
