Initial Consultation and Orientation

The first step is a consultation with one of our experienced and specialised plastic surgeons. During this session:

• Your medical history, aesthetic goals, and expectations will be discussed in detail.
• The surgeon will assess your upper arms, skin texture, and tissue elasticity to determine the best treatment approach for your needs.

Individual treatment plan

• You’ll receive personalized advice on the surgical options available, such as the traditional brachioplast or the mini brachioplasty, as well as possible risks and the healing process.

The extent of the surgery and the placement of the incisions will depend on your needs, aesthetic goals and preferences.  

Preparation for the Surgery & Information

Before your surgery, a few important preparations are needed:

• A blood test to ensure you are in good health
• The surgeon will provide you clear instructions on how to prepare—this can include guidance on eating habits, pausing certain medications, and abstaining from alcohol and nicotine.
• You’ll also receive advice on how to plan your recovery support at home, especially for the first few days post-surgery.

The Day of the Surgery

You’ll arrive at the clinic in a fasted-state, and your surgeon will review the procedure with you and mark the treatment areas. The surgery is typically performed under general anesthesia to ensure you are pain-free during the surgery.

Performing the Upper Arm Lift

The surgeon begins the procedure by making the planned incisions along the inside or back of the upper arms. The technique used depends on your specific goals, which you would have previously discussed with the surgeon:

• Traditional upper arm lift: A long, vertical incision is made from the armpit to the elbow to remove larger amounts of excess skin.
• Mini upper arm lift: This technique involves smaller incisions near the armpit. This method is intended for patients with mild excess skin.
• Liposuction: May be combined with tightening to remove excess fat to create a harmonious contour.
• Skin and fat removal: Excess skin and fat are removed, the remaining skin is tightened, and the incisions are sutured. Depending upon the extent of the surgery, the surgeon may insert drains for the management of excess fluids and minimise the risk of bruising and swelling.

After the Surgery

Following the surgery the treated areas are wrapped in bandages and compression garments to control swelling and support healing. You’ll be monitored in the clinic for a few hours following the surgery, or overnight if the medical team recommends this.

Postoperative Support

• Compression garments: These are vital in the healing process because they help t reduce swelling and shape the arms during healing. They should be worn 24/7 for several weeks (except during showers).
• Pain management: You may experience pain and discomfort after the procedure. This pain can be managed with prescription pain medication, and your surgeon will guide you on how to use it effectively.

Aftercare and Healing Process

Ongoing aftercare is key to a successful recovery. The surgeon will arrange regular follow-up appointments to monitor the healing process and ensure that no complications arise.

• Wound care: You’ll receive clear instructions on how to care for your incisions to minimize the risk of infection.
• Physical rest: In the first few days, rest is important—gentle arm movements are encouraged to promote circulation.
• Gradual return to physical activity: Light daily physical activities can usually be resumed within 2–3 weeks. Strenuous exercise should wait until at least 6 weeks post-surgery, with your doctor’s guidance.

Recovery and Long-Term Results

Recovery takes time, but the outcome is worth it because:

• Visible results: Initial improvements are seen within weeks, while the final outcome typically appears between 3–6 months, once swelling resolves and the skin adjusts.
• Scar care: The surgeon may recommend specific care treatments to help scars fade over time.
• Long-term maintenance: Sustaining the results of your upper arm lift means maintaining a stable weight, healthy habits, and staying active.
