Career & Education
Dr Devinder Bansi, Weight Doctors UK Medical Director and our UK Lead Clinician, is one of London’s leading experts in endoscopic weight loss procedures. He is actively involved in a number of UK and international studies investigating methods of weight loss using endoscopy as an alternative to surgery.
Dr Bansi qualified from the University of Southampton Medical School in 1988. He completed several junior medical posts and knew early on that he wanted to work in gastroenterology. In 1993, Dr Bansi was appointed as a Research Fellow in Gastroenterology at the prestigious and internationally renowned John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. He completed his MD thesis in this field and published several peer-reviewed research papers in leading journals.
After completing his training in Gastroenterology and General Medicine, Dr Bansi was appointed as a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Honorary Senior Lecturer in Medicine at the prestigious Hammersmith Hospital NHS Trust and the Royal Postgraduate Medical School (now part of Imperial College).
Dr Bansi became one of the Trust’s most senior and leading interventional endoscopists. He has a particular passion for minimally invasive, endoscopic treatments for weight loss. In addition to ESG and Gastric Balloon treatment he has established the largest series of patients undergoing stoma revision (TORE) for weight regain post gastric bypass surgery.
Experience & Expertise
Dr Devinder Bansi has over 30 years’ experience performing endoscopies. He performs over 1000 gastroscopies, colonoscopies and ERCPs every year and has extensive experience in advanced therapeutic endoscopy as one of the leading experts in bariatric/metabolic endoscopy in the UK.
He has particular expertise in the use of endoscopic suturing methods and intra-gastric balloons techniques to achieve weight loss. In fact, he is one of the first endoscopists in the UK to establish an ESG service. These skills are regularly used in the training of other doctors in this innovative specialism – he is a UK accredited endoscopy trainer and European expert and International ESG consultant proctor.
Dr Bansi presents regularly at National and International conferences. He is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Imperial College, London
